Takeover brings jobs hope

TWO Netto stores in Oldham are set to be rebranded as part of the takeover by supermarket giant Asda.
The stores, in Huddersfield Road and Hollins Road, could also take on more staff.
The £778 million deal, announced yesterday, will see Netto’s 193 UK stores change to the Asda brand by mid-2011.
Asda also hopes to increase staff numbers in the stores by “up to twice as many”.
Netto — owned by Danish group Dansk Supermarked — employs 3,500 staff in the UK having launched here in 1990.
Asda president and chief executive Mr Clarke said: “Customers will benefit from low prices on a significantly broader range of quality products.”
