Man held after fatal hit-run accident

A MAN died after he and another pedestrian were knocked down in a hit-and-run accident in Chadderton.
They were struck in Broadway, near the junction of Hollinwood Avenue, at 9.45pm on Saturday.
A silver Land-Rover Freelander hit the men and failed to stop at the scene. It’s believed to have gone into St George’s Square.
One of the men died at the scene from his injuries and the second man was taken to hospital for treatment to pelvis and leg injuries and remains in a stable condition.
A 20-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident and driving without insurance.
He remains in police custody for questioning.
