Once again it was not just the local bands taking part in this year’s abundance of contests, with a handful of international bands adding a touch of glamour to the proceedings.
The Norwegian band from Stavanger brought a smart elegance to the contests in their long black skirts and crisp white shirts.
Although conductor Allan Withington is a little more used to the North of England, originally coming from Wigan.
Swiss band Musikgesellschaft (MG) Detligen Brass Band made the trip over last Wednesday especially to join in the weekend fun.
Also playing a concert in Uppermill on Saturday the group, founded in 1915, added culture to the occasion in their colourful traditional Swiss dress.
Dobcross Youth Band had cause to celebrate at weekend as they officially announced they are pairing up with one of Britain’s most famous groups, the Grimethorpe Colliery Brass Band.
As well as squeezing in ten contests on Whit Friday, the band of youngsters have plans to stage a series of concerts with the well-known band, who provided the soundtrack to the iconic 1996 film Brassed Off.
Members from the band will get the chance to rehearse with their heroes if they bag the player of the month award, given out by the conductor James Garlick.
