A ROAD-safety project that has helped children stay safe in parts of Oldham will now be rolled out across the borough.
The “Take Care Get There” programme, designed to increase awareness of road-safety issues, has come to the end of a nine-month run in Glodwick, Coldhurst and Limeside and will move on to other areas.
The campaign is run in partnership with Children’s Centres and has used them as a base to involve parents and offer advice on how they can help their children to remain safe when out and about.
Road-safety staff have been based at five children’s centres to give guidance on safer walking routes, what children need to know and how parents can help.
Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, said: “An understanding of road safety is a vital life skill and giving staff the opportunity to meet parents and explain what they can do to help their children to be safe on the roads has been extremely useful.
“Working out of these centres where we know parents will attend has enabled us to target our message where it is needed.
“In total over 300 parents have been in contact with the team. Many have taken advantage of the opportunity to have traffic risks highlighted and explore the safest routes for their children.”
