World Cup trio go for goal with football song
An enterprising trio of England football fans hope they have netted a winner by recording a World Cup song.
The catchy number, which took five weeks to write, produce and record, has already become a firm favourite on music websites across the nation.
“England in the Sunshine” by The Officials was recorded at Manchester United-supportung builder Dave Bolan’s state-of-the art studios in Scouthead.
The song was written by singer Paul Duddle — another United fan — and produced by City follower Gary Langley, a sound recordist.
Since its launch, the tune has notched up more than 7,000 hits on itunes, pushing rivals off the top spot.
Speaking at his farmhouse home, father-of-two Mr Bolan said: “We decided to forget our personal football club preferences and sink our efforts into this tune. We are really excited about the song — it has taken off like wildfire and we have sent it to major local radio stations with the view to getting it played on air. It has gained a fantastic response from as huge web audience and we are convinced the tune will really go places.
“We got more than 700 hits in less than an hour in one morning. We think it has got real potential.”
And although local pub landlord Tom Harrop has declared The Old Original a soccer-free zone during the five-week tournament which kicks-off next Friday, he said: “It’s a great tune. I’m sure the lads will have some success with it. It really is a foot-tapper.”
Paul Kershaw, a trombonist with Diggle Band, helped on the backing track with his pal Dave Chapman, a trumpeter who fronts the Broadway Big Band.
Said Paul, from Grasscroft: “It is a good tune — I’m glad the audience like it.”
