Mill No.2 — your time is up
Date published: 03 June 2010
A 103-year-old cotton mill is to be demolished.
The Belgrave No 2 mill, off Honeywell Lane, was built in 1907, part of a group of four mills dating from 1881 to 1914.
It ceased to be a cotton mill in 1969, and was used for engineering until 1976, when it was adapted for multiple users.
Now in a poor state of repair, it has been bought by the Fitton Hill and Hathershaw New Deal for Communities project, which has also carried out fencing, security and improvement work in the area.
The mill will now be demolished at a cost of £24,000 and the site marketed for business use.
