TAKEAWAY owners have been accused of “sticking two fingers” up at planning bosses.

Councillors threw out a retrospective application to allow the Desi Roti to continue operating in Pitt Street, Glodwick.

Proposals to turn the the former butcher’s shop into a cafe were originally refused by councillors in 2006, but passed by a planning inspector on appeal.

However, at that appeal the owner stated on the forms that the proposed use was a takeaway — a use which had never been put before councillors.

A neighbour described how the takeaway had blighted her life with noise, litter, anti-social behaviour, drivers ignoring bollards and abuse from customers.

She added that work which should have been carried out to deal with smells had never been done while the takeaway stayed open after its stipulated 10pm closing time.

“It’s horrible. I can’t live like this, it’s a nightmare,” she told the councillors who heard that officers had taken enforcement action.

The committee refused the application and Councillor Paul Martin “This person has basically stuck two fingers up at the council. I think they have behaved appallingly.”

Plans to change Applebys office in Mossley Road, Grasscroft, into into a 60-seat restaurant with a function room and bar were also refused amid concerns that it is next to a dangerous junction.
