A BURNING desire to stir up passion among local football fans has led to Chadderton band The Vaulters penning their own World Cup song.
The trio — bassist John Anson, drummer Duffy and singer Andy Boucher — decided to write “Shine On England” after learning that there were no plans for the FA to release an official England song for the 2010 World Cup.
Andy said: “The emphasis is on trying to create a mood and the feeling that the track has been written for the man on the street by the man in the street.
“As a nation, we all get carried away on a wave of emotion during a tournament, especially if we do well, and we need a rousing tune to sing in the pubs.
“It’s what we Brits are good at and we are always optimistic that the team can deliver and end the curse of the quarter-finals tag we seem to have been labelled with.
“Under Fabio Capello, the team has been transformed into a force to be reckoned with and restored the belief that we can do well and hopefully lift the World Cup.”
The Vaulters — who have been playing venues across the North-West for 20 years — are the second local trio to write a World Cup song. As the Chronicle reported on Wednesday, The Officials — Dave Bolan, Paul Duddle and Gary Langley — have recorded “England in the Sunshine”,
The Vaulters’ song has been adopted by The Big Issue in the North for their England Homeless World Cup in Brazil and some of the proceeds from sales will go to charity.
