Tourism award for Denshaw couple
A farming couple from Saddleworth have cause to celebrate after winning the coveted ‘Best Bed and Breakfast’ gong at the Manchester Tourism Awards.
David and Netti Hall were stunned when Cherry Clough Farmhouse in Denshaw was named winner at the glitzy gala dinner, hosted by comedian John Thomson at the Hilton hotel in Manchester.
David, a third-generation farmer who was born at the site in 1966, decided to transform the derelict cow sheds into stunning five-star accommodation after a heavy snowfall damaged the roof.
Award-winning luxury now sits side by side with the working farm and a flock of 450 sheep, a recipe which has attracted visitors from as far as Thailand and Australia.
His wife Netti said: “We are absolutely delighted. Just over three years ago the buildings were derelict and to be awarded five stars and this award is fantastic.
“We are very proud of what we have and people leave very nice comments in our book — we now have the challenge of maintaining what we have.”
Opening in 2007 following the huge renovation project, the three-bedroom B&B was among the winners that also included the Chill Factore, an indoor ski centre at Trafford, the Radisson Edwardian Hotel in Manchester city centre, and Heaton Park.
Netti said: “It was quite scary because a lot of the other winners were big names and we are relatively small in comparison, but we were absolutely thrilled when our name was called.”
Nick Johnson, chairman of Marketing Manchester said: “Cherry Clough Farmhouse Accommodation was an impressive applicant with extremely high standards throughout, offering all guests innovative personal touches to make their stay extra special.
“A shining example of what can be done with a traditional property in the countryside of the city region. A great ambassador for the beautiful area of Saddleworth.”
