New pegs, more fish to lure anglers

Improvements are under way for anglers at the newly re-stocked Crime Lake, Daisy Nook.
New fishing pegs, or platforms, will provide better angling facilities.
Following a successful bid by Oldham Council for funding from the Environment Agency — plus a donation from Limehurst Angling Club — work is planned to start at the Daisy Nook Country Park site today.
The lake was restocked with thousands of fish in April after pollution from water used to fight the Maple Mill fire last year killed off wildlife.
Now more work to improve the lake is planned, according to Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for citizens and neighbourhoods.
He said: “The current pegs have seen better days and this work will allow improved access for all abilities. In addition disabled anglers will benefit from one peg that will be brought up to British Disabled Anglers Association specification. Further work to improve Crime Lake is also planned this summer with the installation of floating artificial island refuges for nesting wildfowl. This work is all part of Oldham Council’s commitment to ensuring that Daisy Nook remains a well-maintained and popular venue for residents to enjoy.”
