SETTLING in . . . The Rev Brenda Mitchell
A FORMER banker has taken over as the new vicar of St Thomas’s Church, Moorside.
The Rev Brenda Mitchell (57) was installed as the priest in charge at a service led by the Bishop of Manchester, the Rt Rev Nigel McCulloch.
The mother-of-three originally qualified as a banker in 1975 before working in childcare when her children where young.
She then returned to banking and explained: “I was very involved at St John’s Church, Baildon, in Bradford and I led all the children’s work there.
“I felt God calling me to the ordained ministry. It happened quite suddenly, but the process has been almost 10 years to get to this point.
“It is very rewarding working with people and being able to help and support people through difficult times like death and illness, and the happy times like weddings and baptisms.”
Ms Mitchell, who has three grandchildren, enjoys gardening, reading and walking.
She was ordained in the diocese of Wakefield where she served as curate at St John’s Church in Golcar, Huddersfield.
“This is my first role as vicar. I am looking forward to working with the people of Moorside,” said Ms Mitchell, who takes over from The Rev Howard Gray, who retired after 34 years.
“Everyone has been warm and welcoming.
“There is a wonderful atmosphere.”
