343 back on the road in Mossley

Bus links are in line for a boost after transport leaders agreed to increase the coverage of the 343 service in Mossley.

Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority (GMITA) agreed to re-instate the week-day 343 on to Staley Road and ensure it serves Manchester Road between Mossley Rail Station and the Royal George. The changes, which will provide new hourly links to Stalybridge, Hyde and Oldham, start on July 26.

Councillor David White, chairman of GMITA’s Bus Network & GMPTE Services Committee, said: “Where there is a need, we will always look at improving bus services for local residents.

“In this case, increasing the coverage of the 343 will be a real boost, as it means a bus service can now be re-instated on Staley Road, and new links provided on Manchester Road where there are many new homes.”

Huddersfield Road (between Winterford Road and Staley Road) will no longer be served by the 343, however, this route will continue to be covered with services 217 and 218 providing hourly links to Stalybridge and Mossley.

Passengers can check bus services by calling Traveline on 0871 200 22 33. Lines are open from 7am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 8pm at weekends.
