Trial start delayed
Date published: 14 June 2010
THE trial of a former paratrooper facing the death penalty in Iraq has been put back until August.
Danny Fitzsimons (29), a one-time pupil at Our Lady’s RC High in Royton, is accused of shooting dead two fellow private security guards in Baghdad in August, last year.
Fitzsimons’s trial was due to start today and has been adjourned to allow for the preparation of more psychiatric reports.
If convicted, Fitzsimons, who was raised in New Moston, could become the first foreigner publicly executed in the country
