Have your say on future planning strategy

Date published: 15 June 2010

OLDHAM people are being urged to have their say on an important planning document that will shape the long-term future of local land use.

The latest version of the Local Development Framework is available to examine and make comments on until June 18.

The Framework contains Oldham Council’s core strategies, plus policies for dealing with future planning applications, and includes changes made after public consultation in spring, 2009.

Unless residents make more views known, it will become the final document submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for approval.

Councillor John McCann, Cabinet member for regeneration and environment, said: “It is vitally important to get residents’ views on this latest version because it will have long-term consequences.

“Significant issues are at stake here and this is the public’s final chance to have their say.

“If a site is designated for a specific use at this stage, for example housing, it would be extremely difficult to challenge this at a later date because we will then be dealing with the mere detail of a planning application.”

All LDF documents are available for viewing online at http://oldham-consult.limehouse.co.uk/portal/

They can also be examined at the Civic Centre, West Street, at either Access Oldham or the Planning Reception (Floor 12), plus public libraries and the Oldham Business Centre.
