FILM-makers at Oldham Sixth Form College have made it to the final of a national competition.
Two teams of talented media studies students will compete against eight other opponents in the Video Moving Image contest organised by World Skills UK.
They had to research, develop, storyboard and submit a proposal for an original idea or concept for a 30-second TV programme title sequence.
The project formed part of the work within the college junior university vocational programme, which aims to help creative students extend their knowledge and experience of media in preparation for a career in the industry.
Teams have been selected from across the country, on the strength of their concept, to pitch their idea to a panel of top industry professionals at the Worldskills UK Video Moving Image UK Final in Coventry on Friday.
Students from the college have already scooped medals nine times since first entering the competition in 2004 — and are again targeting the top prize.
Head of media, Fiona Douglas-Reeves, said: “It is clear from our past and present success in these national competitions, that Oldham has a wealth of creative talent and that our students can compete with the very best in the country.
“The final will be a real challenge, one that I know the students have prepared for and will learn from.
“Experiences like these are rare and can be a real springboard to bigger and better things, so watch this space!”
Three award winners — gold, silver and bronze — will be chosen on the day and invited to a national awards ceremony held by Worldskills UK for all competitions nationwide.
