Festival of the year in... Hollinwood

Date published: 16 June 2010

YOU can forget Glastonbury, T in the Park and V Festival — the music event of the summer is being held right here in Oldham.

Smudfest will take place at the Bowling Green Inn on Saturday in aid of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.

The fun starts at 11.30am when the first of 16 bands will take to the stage at the Hollinwood pub.

There will also be football cards and regular collections in a bid to raise as much as possible for the Royton-based charity.

The festival has been organised by Sean Kingsley, who runs Five Star Blinds.

He said: “Bands are coming from all over the country for Smudfest so it should be a really good day.

“We picked Dr Kershaw’s because a lot of the lads at Five Star know someone who has been treated there and it is a brilliant local charity.

“We are hoping to raise £1,000 but if we don’t, I will make it up to £1,000 out of my own pocket.”
