Awards success for buildings
BUILDING projects from around Oldham have been recognised for their excellence.
Seven projects within the borough were among the schemes shortlisted at the second annual North-West Local Authority Building Control Awards, held at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton.
Three developments gained highly commended status at the event:
::The Oldham Integrated Care Centre by Carillion Regional Building in the healthcare category.
::The Parklands, Royton, by Holroy Developments in the small housing development category.
::The Cottons development, Chadderton, by Countryside Properties (Northern) Limited in the partnership category.
Also shortlisted were Roebuck Barn, Strinesdale, constructed by MS Swift Building Contractor Ltd; a residential conversion in Ripponden Road, Denshaw, by Quantum Star Ltd; Chadderton Health and Wellbeing Centre by Carillion Regional Building; and Tandle View Court, Royton.
The awards celebrate the best standards in local construction. Entry is open to all contracts which have used the expertise of the local authority’s building control team and processes.
The awards cover a wide variety of buildings ranging from small domestic extensions and individual houses, to multi-million pound commercial, education and healthcare developments.
Councillor Howard Sykes, Oldham’s Council leader, said: “Three of the Oldham entrants received highly commended awards and that is tribute to some of the fantastic building projects which our building control officers assisted on in the past year.
“Ensuring quality is all about good design and an effective construction team. Our building control officers are active throughout these processes and we are proud that some of our excellence has been recognised as being in the top bracket in the region.”
