Winners in the style stakes

Ladies Day glamour
FASHIONABLE ladies gave punters at Royal Ascot a run for their money as they donned their finest frocks and hats for a day of fundraising fun in the sun.
Women turned up the style stakes and donned their finery to celebrate the famous race meeting’s Ladies Day and raise much needed cash for a range of different charities.
Wide-brimmed hats, feathery fascinators and every other style in between were on show at a selection of venues.
An Ascot Ladies day was held at the Old Bell Inn, in Delph, to raise money for Saddleworth Parish Council chairman’s two charities — Diabetes UK and SENSE, the charity for deaf-blind children and adults.
The White Hart, in Lydgate, was awash with colourful hats and outfits during a fundraising Royal Ascot day in aid of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
Creative June Allingan decided to mix a fun afternoon with a touch of patriotic fervour.
So instead of wearing a shimmering creation made especially for the event — she dressed a hat in red and white, complete with a St George flag, to show her support for England at the World Cup.
June, from Moorside, was a guest at the race luncheon at the White Hart attended by more than 170 ladies who all dressed to impress.
“I just wanted to do something different,” she explained. “So I stuck England logos and other bits and pieces to show my support for the team.”
The best hat contest was won by Lisa Stead, from Lydgate.
Gill Bussey, who organised the event which raised more than £3,000 for Dr Kershaw’s, said: “June’s hat was a real innovation.”
And golf was the last thing on ladies minds when they headed to a charity Ascot Ladies Day at Crompton and Royton Golf Club in aid of Link4Pink appeal, which supports the Victoria Breast Unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
