Sheltered flats to be demolished

A DERELICT building that has become a target for vandals is to be demolished.
The council agreed to knock down Matthias Pilling House in Siddall Street, Shaw, after residents expressed concerns about the blight and nuisance it was causing.
The demolition of the former sheltered housing is expected to be complete by July 23. The site will be grassed over.
Councillor John Dillon, Shaw Community Champion, said: “Residents highlighted the problems with this site. We need to listen to them on issues like this and take swift action.
“At this stage we are unable to make a commitment about the future development of this site. However, we do pledge that local residents will be consulted about any future proposals.
“For now the best course of action we can take is to demolish this property and leave the site in a presentable condition.
“This will deter the vandals from returning and remove the inconvenience and blight which neighbours have suffered.”
