Poets win prizes
Date published: 21 June 2010
PERFECT poetry and polished prose by pupils from three local schools earned prestigious wins in the Oldham Choral Speaking Festival.
Run by the Rotary Club of Oldham Metro, the two-day festival, held at Oldham Coliseum, saw around 1,600 primary school pupils take to the stage to show off their speaking skills.
Now in its 26th year, the festival aims to encourage children’s enjoyment of poetry and develop their confidence when speaking in public.
Organisers toured the three winning schools to present rose bowls marking their success.
They were Freehold Community Primary School, Greenhill Primary School and Glodwick Infant and Nursery School.
