Vandals blamed for rail blaze

VANDALS have been blamed for a blaze at a former railway building at Mumps station.
Fire-fighters from Hollins and Chadderton were called to the two-storey control building at around 9pm yesterday after a flood of calls.
They spent two hours tackling the flames which damaged the first floor.
The line is currently being converted to Metrolink and watch commander Tony Morgan, from Hollins fire station, said: “The site is not very secure at the moment and there is quite a lot of fly-tipping going on.
“The youth are attracted to it and they quite easily broke into the top of the building.
“The police have identified this as a problem and are going to try and get some of the rubbish cleared, but we are struggling to identify who owns it because it is being handed over from Network Rail to Metrolink.”
