An e-asier way to do business
Date published: 24 June 2010
Councils across the North-West — including Oldham — are making it easier for local businesses to tender for work online.
“The Chest” is a web portal which provides Oldham Council contract opportunities for businesses and cuts administration time and costs.
Councillor Lynne Thompson said: “When contracts are awarded to local suppliers, over 75 per cent are respent with local people and businesses — as opposed to only 36 per cent from national or non-local suppliers.
“Registering with The Chest and stating an interest in Oldham Council will mean that companies will have tenders e-mailed directly to them. This means that they won’t waste time trawling through council websites or the European Journal, looking for opportunities.
“I would urge all local companies that want to do business with the council to get involved.”
