Brain tumour conference invite
Date published: 24 June 2010
A LEADING tumour specialist from Manchester has welcomed a conference to support anyone in the North-West who has been affected by a brain tumour.
Alan Jackson, professor of neuro-radiology at the University of Manchester, will be a key speaker at Brain Tumour UK’s 10th annual conference in Blackpool, on July 7 and 8.
And an invitation to attend has been thrown out to interested people living in Oldham.
Prof Jackson said: “The conference is a great opportunity for anyone in the North-West to learn more about brain tumours, treatment and research.
“One of the greatest challenges faced by anyone with a brain tumour is the sense of isolation after diagnosis.
“Brain Tumour UK’s conferences help people understand that they are not alone and to take strength from sharing their experiences with others.”
The conference will also cover the financial impact of a diagnosis, and look at the benefits system, coping strategies, driving and planning future care.
It will also hear from inspirational people who have been affected by brain tumours. Brain Tumour UK estimates that 16,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour in the UK each year, while up to 32,000 people may develop a brain tumour as a secondary cancer.
In the North-West, around 6,300 people are affected by tumours each year, one-third are primary cancers and the rest secondary cancers.
