A HOST of charities enjoyed a bumper pay day thanks to a year of hard work from the Rotary Club of Oldham.
With the support and generosity of Oldhamers, the Rotarians were able to donate more than £10,400 to a variety of good causes.
Among those receiving vital funds at the club’s annual donation evening were Royton’s Dr Kershaw’s Hospice, Oldham Mountain Rescue Team, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Pennine Acute Hospitals Charity Trust.
Also benefiting were the Oldham Mayor’s Appeal, the annual Kid’s Out trip and national appeals for help from the Cumbria Flood appeal and the Micro and Anophthalmic Children’s Society.
Three UK-based charities — Shelter Box, Aqua Box and Water Aid — which send emergency relief to disaster areas, were given support during the Haiti disaster and the “Smile Train”, which provides cleft lip and cleft palate surgery to children in need, was the focus of the club’s international donations.
Rotary International is still working towards the eradication of polio across the world and the Oldham clubs continue to support this objective.
