Children’s centre picks up plaudits

AN Oldham children’s centre has been honoured in a national awards.
Shaw and Crompton Children’s Centre came runner-up in the children’s centre team of the year section at the Children’s Stars Awards 2010.
It was praised for its excellent quality of childcare and also commended for its work in providing opportunities for everyone in the community to get involved.
Judges found that under strong leadership the centre provides a warm, welcoming and encouraging atmosphere that helps to nurture confidence and wellbeing in children and staff alike.
The awards scheme, run annually, rewards motivated and inspirational local heroes who work tirelessly to improve the lives of children and young people.
It’s run by children’s charity 4Children as part of its “Shout Out 4Children Week” and is supported by the Department for Education.
The awards ceremony was held at a gala dinner in London hosted by BBC political correspondent Reeta Chakrabarti.
Anne Longfield, chief executive of 4Children, said: “No job is more important than caring for and inspiring our children and young people. Shaw and Crompton Children’s Centre has achieved something remarkable and fully deserve the recognition.”
Reeta Chakrabarti said: “Our children are the most cherished members of our families and our society. The Children’s Star Awards are an opportunity to applaud those exceptional people who work with and care for our children.”
