Teachers and other staff from Failsworth School completed the Three Peaks Challenge in only 24 hours.
More than 20 staff from Failsworth School and St Cuthbert’s School in Rochdale, plus three members of the Sai Martial Arts Club in Rochdale, tackled Ben Nevis in Scotland, Snowdon in Wales and Scafell Pike in England at the weekend.
The challenge began at the foot of Ben Nevis at 3pm on Saturday, followed by a night climb up Scafell and then ended at the summit of Snowdon at 3pm on Sunday.
The team faced severe weather conditions, extreme physical endurance and sleep deprivation as they hiked for a total of 25 miles, climbed over 10,000 feet and travelled more than 450 miles between the three countries.
But their perseverance paid off and the group has raised £1,000 so far for the four nominated school charities Oldham Cancer Support Centre, Help for Heroes, the Lazarus Ministries and the Lourdes Fund.
Michael Kelly, integrated services co-ordinator at Failsworth School, said: “This event showed what can be achieved by working as a team and allowing time for preparation and training.
“With support from pupils, parents and staff alike, both Failsworth and St Cuthbert’s Schools have created a new dimension to staff activities.
“Next year, plans are in place for another challenge, tackling the second highest three peaks comprising of much more difficult climbs on Ben Macdui in Scotland, Crib-y-Ddysgl in Wales and Scafell in England.
“However, in the meantime the group are enjoying a well-earned rest.”
