ENGLAND footballers could learn a thing or two about playing the beautiful game in the true spirit from youngsters in Chadderton.
For while Rooney and Co failed to impress in a frustrating and disappointing World Cup campaign, their young counterparts were playing their hearts out in, what for them, was an equally important tournament staged by Chadderton Park Football Club.
Mini-stars from the host club took on teams from Chadderton Grasshoppers in a tournament which attracted players in five age groups, ranging from under -six to under-10, playing for the Chadderton Cup.
The event was held as part of an annual fund-raising fun day at Chadderton Fold.
Despite Chadderton Park FC’s best efforts, the Grasshoppers narrowly won.
Steve Lynch, Chadderton Park FC secretary, said: “The boys played brilliantly and had a great day — they loved it.”
Visitors enjoyed an activity-packed day, which included a penalty shoot-out, bouncy castle, barbecue and refreshments. All money raised will go towards refurbishing the club house.
