SURF’S up for young dancers from Knowsley Junior School, Springhead, who are performing a surfing-inspired routine in this year’s Manchester Mini-Games.
The Year 6 students won the Oldham heat of the dancing competition with their performance to the Beach Boys classic ‘Surfing USA’.
They will now represent the borough in the Mini-Games on Friday next week at Failsworth School, and will join fellow pupils from Year 3 and 4 who will also be taking part after winning the gymnastics heat.
Oldham is one of six local authorities across Greater Manchester taking part in the annual competition in which children compete in categories such as hockey, rugby, tennis and basketball.
Ellen Aldred, school sports co-ordinator, said: “We’ve worked closely with Laura Mulholland, from Oldham Sports Development, to choreograph this routine and have been practising very hard.
“Since the Mini-Games began, we have qualified and one in at least one category every year.
“This year we are raring to won and are hoping for success in gymnastics and dance.”
