A teenager was smacked across the head with a bottle as he was walking in the street with a friend.
The 16-year-old was attacked in Ashton Road, Oldham at about 10.30pm on June 12, but details have only just been released by the police.
Four men ran up behind the two youngsters and one of them jumped into the air and hit the victim on the side of his head.
The gang then ran off along Ashton Road leaving the teenager with a cut to his head that required four stitches.
The man with the bottle was described as white, medium build, small, with short blonde hair. He was wearing all black clothing.
Two others were black, one around 6ft 4in tall, of stocky build with a shaved head and wearing a sparkly orange T-shirt. The other was aged about 18, 5ft 8in tall, of skinny build with short messy hair.
The fourth man was white, 6ft 4in tall, skinny, with dark hair.
Det-Con Joe Burke, of Oldham CID, said: “The boy had just left an ice-cream parlour when he was attacked from behind without warning.
“His injuries could have been much more serious than they were and I want to find whoever feels behaviour like this is acceptable.
