We can grow a lot on our plot

THE good life . . . from left, society members Jack Wilson and Fritz Fitton with Councillor Alan Roughley on the land earmarked for potential allotments
GONE may be the days when every household grew their own veg, but an enterprising team of locals from Denshaw are hoping to get back the good life by cultivating local produce in their own village.
A group of garden-lovers have formed the Denshaw Allotment Society in the aim of turning disused land into thriving community hotspots, that could provide a new community shop with freshly grown veg. Land behind the village hall is one of the potential sites that could soon boast locally nurtured cabbages, carrots and lettuce, as well as space next to Christ Church, earmarked as an extension to the graveyard in 50 years.
Fritz Fitton, who helped to start the new group, said: “There is nothing quite like tucking into something that you have grown yourself.
“In some respects we hope it will drum up a bit of interest and get the village community up and running.’
Councillor Alan Roughley said: “It’s an interesting sign that a scattered group is starting to think and work as a community.”
