YOUNG athletes from two schools set to merge in September joined forces for a historic sports day.
A total of 300 Year 7 students from Breeze Hill and Counthill School competed in their first joint sports day at the City of Manchester Stadium’s athletics track.
All participants were placed into country teams from around the world, in keeping with the Commonwealth Games theme, and took part in a range of sports including javelin, running and hurdles.
As pupils from both schools will be taught at the new Waterhead Academy from September, the sports day was an opportunityfor all to work together to do their best.
David Yates, principal of the new academy, said: “Today highlights just how well we work together, not only for our staff who have worked tremendously hard to put the day together but also for our students in seeing them do their very best.”
