Sofa, so good for Josie

ENGLAND may be out of the World Cup but one Heyside family has reasons to be cheerful after winning a specially manufactured World Cup couch emblazoned with the St George’s flag.

Eileen Atkinson (69) and her husband Gerald (74) were stunned to win the bespoke white leather sofa from Cheers Furniture Showroom (CFS) after entering last month’s Oldham Evening Chronicle competition.

The couple had to fill in a coupon featured in the Chronicle and correctly answer that CFS’s new showroom is based on the Laurel Trading Estate, Higginshaw Lane, Royton.

Now the generous grandparents from Helston Drive have given the striking three-seater to their nine-year-old grand-daughter Josie Miller.

Mr Atkinson said: “The sofa is absolutely excellent. We originally gave it to our son-in-law, Roy Miller, because he’s football daft but he has passed it on to his daughter, our granddaughter, Josie who will house it in her playroom.”
