Brass band ramblers training at Dovestone for the 192-mile musical march
192-mile musical march for charity
BRASS BANDERS will be embarking on a musical march like no other this summer as they take their instruments on a 192-mile coast-to-coast trek.
Using Saddleworth moors as a demanding training ground, the group, made up of players from across the country, will set off from St Bees in Cumbria and finish in Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire, raising funds for the NSPCC.
Tenor horn player and Oldham Council worker Imogen Fuller, said: “I’ve never walked that distance before but I’m really looking forward to it.
“My family think I’m mad!” Imogen added: “We’ll be doing performances along the way, but we’ll let the bass player put his instrument on the bus.”
The keen walkers, who have in the past made it to the top of Snowdon, are now urging local groups to get on the bandwagon and complete smaller challenges to boost the charity’s funds.
