Top conductor for concert

The best of brass from Saddleworth School Band, Mossley Band and local junior school bands will be in concert on Friday.
They have been tutored by Derek Broadbent, resident conductor of the world-famous Brighouse and Rastrick Band from 1973 to 1983.
Mr Broadbent, who has run workshops with students, took Brighouse and Rasterick to the national finals in 1980 and conducted its chart-topping success, “The Floral Dance.”
He will conduct at Friday’s concert to be held in the Saddleworth school’s hall.
Tickets are available from the school’s music department.
