ROCKIN’ rewards . . . volunteers spruce up Collier Hill and were rewarded with an exclusive gig ticket
HELPFUL young people who took part in two volunteering events have bagged themselves tickets for an exclusive music gig.
Over 130 young people gave up their free time to lend a hand at volunteering events in Limeside and Shaw.
A total of 65 volunteers helped repair, redecorate and clean the Collier Hill community centre in Limeside, while 68 youngsters cleaned, repainted and repaired the entire George Street skate park in Shaw.
The clean-ups were part of Oldham Council’s successful Go! Oldham programme, which provides a wide range of activities for young people in the borough throughout the year.
Both events were supported by phone network Orange which provided refreshments and gave out free tickets to an exclusive Orange RockCorps gig taking place in Manchester tonight featuring Snoop Dogg, Tine Tempah, Mr Hudson and Vampire Weekend.
Councillor Jack Hulme, cabinet member for children and families said: “These have been excellent events where the enthusiasm and hard work of young people has been focused to help improve community facilities for the benefit of all local people and they have been rewarded for their work with free concert tickets.”
