CHALLENGE . . . Andy Gartside, Chris Maylor and Howard Chambers prepare to set off on the challenge to reach Britain’s three highest summits
AN EX-ARMY corporal will scale Britain’s three highest mountains to raise funds for his injured comrades.
Chris Maylor (40), from Royton, served in the Army from 1991 to 2003 and is now planning to smash through the 24-hour mark in the demanding 11,000ft hill scramble.
The dedicated dad will join forces with fellow Saddleworth Runners members Andy Gartside and Howard Chambers in a bid to raise a mountain of cash for Help for Heroes. But he admits that reaching the summit of Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike in under a day won’t be a walk in the park.
He said: “You can’t sleep that much and letting go at the top and flying down can be hair-raising.”
The adventurous trio will set off tomorrow afternoon and drive through the night to complete the 500-mile journey in one day.
Chris added: “I still know people serving in the forces. I was lucky to walk away with no injuries but some lads are going to get hurt.”
