Volunteers swap hard work for gig tickets
GREEN-FINGERED volunteers picked up gardening gloves and shovels to spruce up Daisy Nook Country Park as part of the Orange Rockcorps project.
More than 100 volunteers from across Greater Manchester — aged between 16 and 50 — spent an afternoon clearing pathways, mending fences and painting benches around the Crime Lake area of the country park.
In return, the group secured tickets to see gigs by artists including Snoop Dogg, Tinie Tempah, Vampire Weekend and Mr Hudson.
The national project rewards young people for giving up four hours of their time by giving them exclusive tickets to music events around the country.
Project co-ordinator Katayune Presland said: “We had a really good day, the weather was amazing and the volunteers made a big difference to the park.
“The volunteers worked hard together to earn their ticket. Some had taken the day off from work and revision to do their bit for the people who love visiting Daisy Nook.”
