INTREPID youngsters from St Joseph’s Primary School, Shaw, had a splashing time in the Lake District.
Year 6 pupils enjoyed an adventure weekend kayaking, climbing, abseiling and raft building at the Waterpark outdoor activity centre by Coniston Water.
The action-packed activities got the thumbs-up from the children, with Ethan Ullah simply saying: “Wow . . .what a weekend.”
Alex Trippier said: “I can’t believe I got to the top of the 80ft climb,” while Tom Ainsworth added: “I’ve never been so wet in my whole life.”
Steve Hill, the school’s deputy head, said: “The weekend is a fantastic experience for all the children and they look forward to it all year.
“Many of the activities are new to them and as well as simply having a lot of fun, the activities help to develop the confidence and team-building activities we undertake throughout the year in school.”
He added: “The children learned the importance of working as a team and encouraged and supported each other as they each conquered an 80ft climb and abseil.
“They developed their kayaking skills and also worked together to design and build their own rafts to sail on Coniston Water.
“It was great fun with differing levels of success. Some of the rafts simply collapsed with the team all ending up in the water, which just added to the fun and excitement.
“The trip has produced some amazing memories for the children that I’m sure will stay with them for many years to come.”
