Date published: 13 July 2010
IT’S PARTY time for sprightly Annie Miller who is celebrating her 101st birthday today with the help of some special guests.
Annie, who lived at the family home in St Anne’s Crescent, Grasscroft until 2005, is set to enjoy a cake and a small party at Millfield Residential Home, in Waterhead.
The great-grandmother will be raising a glass with the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor David Jones, as well as the borough’s Youth Mayor Liam Turner, who are offering their congratulations during a visit to the home.
Annie grew up in Oldham and, as a teenager, helped her mother Ada Newton raise her siblings following her father’s death from TB.
After school, Annie worked as a winder in Derker Mill while developing her passion for dressmaking in her spare time.
She married her late husband Wilfred, who died in 1997, at St James’s Church, Derker, and the couple had a son and daughter and five grandchildren.
