A 53-YEAR-OLD woman was knocked to the ground by a robber who stole her handbag in broad daylight.

The woman was making her way to the NatWest Bank in Hollinwood Avenue, Moston, at 12.20pm on Monday when the thug demanded her bag.

The frightened woman tried to get away from the man but he grabbed her from behind and knocked her to the floor.

Following a brief struggle, the robber ran off with her bag which contained a large amount of cash.

He fled in a waiting red car which sped off towards Victoria Avenue.

The robber is described as white, in his early 30s, about 6ft 2in tall with a round, chubby face.

He was wearing a navy-blue jacket and brown bob hat.

The woman suffered a sprained wrist and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Detective Constable Matt Oldham, said: “The robber was not alone and the getaway driver is every bit as culpable as the robber.

“This happened in broad daylight and given the woman put up a good struggle it would have caused quite a commotion.

“I want to hear from anyone who saw what happened or knows who is responsible.”

Anyone with information should call Oldham CID on 0161-856 8951, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.
