A 64-YEAR-OLD Oldham man who was airlifted to hospital after he slipped and plunged 650 feet down a Lake District mountain is “poorly” in hospital.
The unnamed walker suffered head and face injuries when he fell from Swirral Edge, close to the summit of Helvellyn, on Saturday.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team joined forces with the Great North Air Ambulance and an RAF Sea King helicopter in a long and difficult operation to rescue him from Brown Cove.
He was taken to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, where he was yesterday described as “stable but poorly.”
