CARNIVALgoers braved the showers to enjoy a fun-filled weekend at the Failsworth Carnival.
Young and old lined the streets on Saturday as colourful floats and walking groups ignored the rain led the parade on a route from Lord Lane playing fields to Roman Road, Ashton Road East, Brierley Avenue, Hibbert Crescent and back.
Heading the parade and entertaining the crowds was the Oldham and Lees Band, followed by Failsworth Carnival royalty, and groups such as the Silver Gems majorettes.
Youngsters from the Failsworth Dynamos and the Tang Soo Do family karate club collected money along the route dressed in their sports kit.
St John’s Church in Failsworth filled their float with bubbles and sea creatures as part of their Under the Sea theme, while the 248 Scout group decorated theirs with a comic book theme.
Mini cooper cars from the Oldham and District Mini Club joined the fun, as did Oldham Royelles Dance Group and local brownies and guides groups.
More fun was had on both days at Lord Lane playing fields where youngsters enjoyed fun fair rides, inflatable assault courses, stalls and activities.
On Saturday, this year’s Failsworth Carnival Royalty were crowned and prizes were given to the best parade entrants.
Chaddy the Owl took up goalkeeping position for a Beat the Keeper event on Sunday while a Bonnie Baby competition saw 15 cuties aged two and under grace the stage.
Enid Bell, treasurer of Failsworth Carnival Committee, said: “Despite the odd shower, the weekend went very well with lots of people attending on both days.
“Over £3,000 was raised over the weekend, all of which will be distributed to local groups and organisations later in the year.”
