Seven tonnes!

DUMPED . . . soil and stripped cable found in Nont Sarah’s Road, Denshaw
That’s the amount of rubbish dumped by roadside fly-tippers
COUNCIL staff spent £500 removing more than seven tonnes of fly-tipped waste in Denshaw.
Five large sacks of soil and stripped cable were cleared from the A640 Nont Sarah’s Road.
Staff are currently being called out to one serious case a week at a cost of least £80 a visit.
Councillor Mark Alcock, cabinet member for citizens and neighbourhoods, said: “Fly-tipping on this road is becoming a regular occurrence. Due to its isolated location, the loads being tipped are significantly bigger than usual urban cases of fly-tipping.
“Previous to this case over 100 dumped tyres had to be removed.
“To make matters worse, we are aware of some cases where vehicles are tipping directly on to the road which could lead to serious accidents. If anyone can help, or spots tipping taking place anywhere in the borough, then I would urge them to make a note of the vehicle registration involved and if possible take a photo on their mobile. Then please call the council on 0161-770 6644 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
Last year Oldham Council spent more than £1 million on clearing up 1,500 tonnes of fly-tipped waste.
