Church bids to beat vandals

A FUND-RAISING committee has been set up in an effort to repair damage caused by vandals at a Lees church.
St Thomas’s Leesfield has been attacked three times this year with thieves stealing lead from the roof and stone slabs from the ground as well as smashing windows.
The committee’s first event will be a table-top sale at St Thomas’s School in Thomas Street on Saturday from 10am-2pm.
Anyone wanting to hire a table can contact Tracey Kennedy on 0161-633 0541.
At the same time, a garden party will take place on the vicarage lawn in Wild Street.
Refreshments, a bouncy castle, penalty shoot-out competition, face-painting, nail art and a raffle will all be on offer.
Lees councillor Val Sedgwick, a long-time member of the congregation, said she welcomed the extra effort made by the newly-formed fund-raising committee.
She added: “This is the first of many fund-raising activities which will allow us to build a successful future for the parish.
“I encourage everyone to get behind our fund-raising committee and come along on Saturday as I am sure an enjoyable time will be had by all.”
