Sentence delayed on killer driver

A Royton driver who knocked down and killed a pedestrian in Huddersfield will be sentenced tomorrow.
A judge at Bradford Crown Court yesterday questioned why Brett Kingsley (25) of Cecil Street was charged with perverting the course of justice despite causing the death of student Adam O’Toole three years ago.
The court heard there was not enough evidence to charge Kingsley with causing death by dangerous driving, so he was charged for lying about how the Rover 200 car was damaged.
The accident happened on New Hey Road at Salendine Nook as Adam, a promising rugby player, was crossing the road.
Kingsley was driving his mother’s car, and told her it was damaged while parked. An insurance company paid out when the car was written off.
Kingsley was arrested in February this year, and was due to be sentenced yesterday, but Judge Alastair McCallum adjourned the case to tomorrow.
