Shopkeeper found selling fake DVDs

A shopkeeper has been prosecuted after selling fake Bollywood DVDs from his store in Coppice.
Sajid Mahmood, (35), of Werneth Hall Road, Coppice, was caught when Trading Standards officers raided his shop, Apna DVD Centre, on Osbourne Road.
Mahmood pleaded guilty to seven offences under the Trade Marks Act at Oldham Magistrates’ Court on July 13, after the team found more than 500 fake discs at the shop in June last year. He was sentenced to 80 hours’ unpaid work and told to pay costs of £1,000.
Councillor Rod Blyth, cabinet member for community safety and public protection, said: “Mahmood was duping customers into thinking they were getting a bargain when in fact they were probably buying a poor-quality fake. He was ripping citizens off.”
