Canal festival fun

A DAY of fun and games has been organised across the borough for this year’s Rochdale Canal Festival.
The event, which runs from Saturday to August 1, will be launched by Oldham Mayor, Councillor David Jones, who will arrive at the Failsworth canal basin by boat.
Councillor Kay Knox said: “This is an excellent festival that has established itself as a key summer event running from Manchester, through Oldham and into Rochdale and Calderdale. This year the festival will be bigger than ever with more than 50 activities taking place throughout the week.
“The Rochdale canal is a major engineering achievement and its restoration has had significant benefits to local communities along its route.
“This festival is a celebration of the canal plus an opportunity for people to come along and see what goes on.”
