Scouts take the plunge down tower
Date published: 26 July 2010
CUBS and scouts scaled new heights — and then headed down in their latest fund-raising efforts.
More than 80 daredevils got strapped in for a sponsored abseil down the 100ft high church tower at St Anne’s, Royton.
The event was organised by scouts from the church, which celebrates its centenary next year.
They decided to raise money for the anniversary, a new scout hut and the national charity Children’s Leukaemia.
Youngsters from troops in other Oldham districts also took part, collecting sponsorship for their own good causes.
