Holiday time for some high adventure
Date published: 27 July 2010
Young people are being challenged to have an adventurous time at parks and countryside centres across Oldham this summer.
Oldham Council’s Parks and Countryside Service has named every Thursday in July and August High Adventure Day.
It is offering young people aged 11– 16 the chance to have a go at archery, canoeing, kayaking, tree climbing, rock climbing and mountain biking — all for free.
The events are mountain biking at Daisy Nook on Thursday; canoeing and kayaking at Strinesdale on August 5; tree climbing and archery at Tandle Hills, Royton, on August 12; plus canoeing and rock climbing at Brownhill, Dobcross on August 19.
Each activity is run by trained instructors and lasts for between one to two hours. For further information and booking forms ring 0161-620 8202. Places are limited and timings will be agreed closer to the dates.
Councillor Kay Knox, cabinet member for leisure, culture, heritage and tourism services said: “A wide range of different events will be taking place right across the borough this summer and more information can be found on www.gooldham.com.”
