SUPER League experience . . . youngsters taking part in the rugby camp
YOUNGSTERS have found out what it takes to become a Super League star at a rugby summer camp.
Around 35 children have banished the holiday blues by getting stuck in at the Paul Sculthorpe Skills and Development Camp at Counthill School.
The four-day sessions (10am-3pm) finish tomorrow when former St Helens star and Great Britain captain Paul Sculthorpe will attend for the day to take part in training and lead a presentation.
The rugby league legend, who attended the school, combines a full-time role at St Helens as business development manager with organising rugby summer camps and working in schools.
He believes sport is hugely important for children — not least because of the healthy lifestyle and discipline it promotes.
Director and head coach Steve Copley said: “The camp gives youngsters a Super League experience for a week as it’s based on what a Super League club would do with fitness and skills training. The youngsters are loving it. They have done well and made some new friends. It’s been great.”
